When sending mail, Eudora displays an error "503 Need Recipient"

Eudora: Bad LOGIN Error
When attempting to check e-mail using Eudora Pro, you receive one or more of the following error messages:

<Dominant>, Checking for new messages in mailbox "INBOX"... Operation Failed

<Dominant>, Checking for new messages in mailbox "INBOX"... Bad LOGIN user name and/or password

OR

<Dominant>, Logging into POP server, PASS. There has been an error transferring your mail. I said: PASS <shhhh! Don't tell anyone.> and then the POP server (ulid@mail.ilstu.edu) said: ERR Bad Login

Problem Solution There are a couple of reasons why you may be receiving one or more of these error messages. Either your password is incorrect, or Eudora is improperly configured.

Invalid Password: The password you are using is incorrect.

To determine if this is the problem, try checking your e-mail using Webmail (accessible at http://webmail.kent.edu). If you are able to successfully login to Webmail using the same password, then your password is valid. Next, look at Eudora's settings to determine if it is properly configured (see below).

If you are unable to login to Webmail using your password, it is likely that this is the reason you were having problems checking e-mail in Eudora Pro.

If your password does not allow you to logon to Webmail or check e-mail in Eudora, you should try changing it. You may have it reset by going to the Help Desk office on the first floor of the Library, with your Kent State ID card. Or call the Help Desk for further assistance 330-672-4357.

Eudora Settings: Eudora's mail server settings may be configured incorrectly. To check this, do the following:

1. Open Eudora Pro.
2. Click Tools > Options. Then click on Getting Started on the left side of the window.
3. Locate the box labeled Mail Server (Incoming) and make sure it contains pop.kent.edu
4. Locate the box labeled Login Name and make sure it contains your KSU userid, as assigned by the University. Your userid is the first part of your University e-mail address. Contact the Help Desk at 330-672-HELP or click here to find it yourself.
5. Locate the box labeled SMTP Server (Outgoing) and make sure it contains smtp.kent.edu
6. Click OK.

After making any changes, try using Eudora Pro to check e-mail again. You may need to close Eudora Pro and re-open it for any changes to take effect. If you continue to have problems, you may contact the Help Desk at 330-672-HELP.
