Prepare Your Browser Settings for FlashLine http://www.kent.edu/flashline

You will need to perform the following adjustments to optimize your browser for use with WFS, WFFA, WebCT and FlashLine.

1. Enable Java

You will need to have Java software installed in order for certain areas of WebCT to function properly. Follow these steps:

Get Java. Go to the Sun Java site, and click Download Java Software. Follow the online instructions. In addition, you will need to perform the following adjustments:

IE 4.0 and higher Select
Tools then choose Internet Options
Select the Security tab
Click the Custom Level button
Scroll down to Java Permissions and choose either Low, Medium or High safety
Click OK

Netscape 4.5 and higher
Select Edit then choose Preferences
Select Advanced from the left-hand pane
Make sure the Enable Java and Enable JavaScript boxes are checked
Click OK

2. Set Browser Cache

IE 4.0 and higher
Select Tools then choose Internet Options
Select the General tab
Select Settings from Temporary Internet Files
Select the Every Visit to the Page radio button
Click OK

IE 4.0 and higher
Select Tools then choose Internet Options
Select the General tab
Select Settings from Temporary Internet Files
Select the Automatically radio button
Click OK

Netscape 4.5 and higher
Select Edit then choose Preferences
Click the + sign or arrow next to Advanced to view more options
Select Cache
Select the Every Time radio button at the bottom
Click OK

3. Enable Cookies
You may need to enable cookies in order to log in to our systems:

IE 4.x
Select View then choose Internet Options
Select the Advanced tab
Scroll down to the Security section and then find Cookies
Select Always accept cookies
Click OK

IE 5.x
Select Tools then choose Internet Options
Select the Security tab
Click the Custom Level button
Scroll down to the Cookies section
Set Allow cookies that are stored on your computer to Enable
Set Allow per-session cookies to Enable
Click OK

IE 6.x
Select Tools then choose Internet Options
Select the Privacy tab
Enable Cookies:
If using a default setting, move the slider to select any of the following privacy settings:
Medium High
Medium
Low
Accept all cookies
If using a custom setting:
Click the Advanced button
Select Override automatic cookie handling
Select Always allow session cookies
Click OK to return to the Privacy Tab
Click Apply then OK

Netscape 4.x
Select Edit then choose Preferences
Select the Advanced from the left-hand pane
In the Cookies section of the right-hand pane select Accept All Cookies or Enable all Cookies
Click OK

Netscape 6.x
Select Edit then choose Preferences
Click on the arrow next to Privacy & Security in the left-hand pane and then select Cookies
Select Enable cookies for the originating website only
Click OK

For Macintosh

1. Enable Java


You will need to have Java installed in order for certain areas of WFS, WFFA, WebCT and FlashLine to function properly. Follow these steps:

Test for Java. See if you can load a java applet of this puzzle or this magic cube. We link to two applets because the sites are occasionally not available. If you can't link to one, try the other.
If you don't see the cube, you will need to download a Java update for Mac. For Mac OS 9 and earlier, you'll need to download and install the MRJ 2.2. For Mac OS X , you'll need to download and install Java 1.4.1 for Mac.

In addition, you will need to perform the following adjustments:

IE 5.0 and 5.1
From the menu bar select Edit then choose Preferences
Select the arrow next to Web Browser to expand the options
Select Java
Under Java Options select the option Enable Java
Click OK

IE 5.2
From the menu bar select Explorer then choose Preferences
Select the arrow next to Web Browser to expand the options
Select Java
Under Java Options select the option Enable Java
Click OK

Netscape 4.5 and higher
Select Edit then choose Preferences
Select Advanced from the left-hand pane
Make sure the Enable Java and Enable JavaScript boxes are checked
Click OK

2. Set Browser Cache to Always Reload a Page

IE 5.0 and 5.1
From the menu bar select Edit then choose Preferences
Select the arrow next to Web Browser to expand the options
Select Advanced
Under Cache select the Always option
Click OK

IE 5.2
From the menu bar select Explorer then choose Preferences
Select the arrow next to Web Browser to expand the options
Select Advanced
Under Cache select the Always option
Click OK

Netscape 4.5 and higher
Select Edit then choose Preferences
Click the arrow next to Advanced to view more options
Select Cache
Select the Every Time or Every time I view the page option
Click OK

3. Enable Cookies
You may need to enable cookies in order to log in to WebCT. Note for WebCT administrators: If you are using WebCT Campus Edition with ticket-based authentication, client browsers must have cookies enabled.

IE 5.0 and 5.1
From the menu bar select Edit then choose Preferences
Select the arrow next to Receiving Files to expand the options
Select Cookies
Select the When receiving cookies option to Never Ask
Click OK

IE 5.2
From the menu bar select Explorer then choose Preferences
Select the arrow next to Receiving Files to expand the options
Select Cookies
Select the When receiving cookies option to Never Ask
Click OK

Netscape 4.x
Select Edit then choose Preferences
Select the Advanced from the left-hand pane
In the Cookies section of the right-hand pane select Accept All Cookies
Click OK

Netscape 6.x
Select Edit then choose Preferences
Select the arrow next to Privacy & Security in the left-hand pane
Select Cookies
Select Enable cookies for the originating website only
Click OK

Netscape 7.x
Select Netscape then choose Preferences
Select the arrow next to Privacy & Security in the left-hand pane
Select Cookies
Select Enable cookies for the originating website only
Click OK
